Kore and her Zoog

What was supposed to be a really quick sketch and color...
Everything went well until I started working on the coat of the Zoog (creature sitting on the girl's shoulder), and couldn't decide on a good forest omnivore coat pattern.

Fought with ideas for about a week and settled on this one, based roughly on a chipmunk, but with stripes like a sumatran rabbit, in mocha and cream colors.
I'll be doing a full creature study on this thing and it's animation cycles later (especially the run cycle. Six legs should make for an interesting run pattern.)

The Zoog is not based on Disney's... thing. Detestable design. It's based very loosely on Lovecraftian mythos, and is a denizen of the dreamworlds. These creatures, while small, can take down a man in packs. Generally they'll leave you alone, especially if you bring them food or something to play with. Clockwork toys especially.

The deviance from the Mythos is mainly because I figured this would get better response from people. A six-legged squirrel-like creature with huge ears definitely looks better than some freakish monkey with an octopus face and bulbous, freakish eyes. Take a gander here - [link]

Though completely different in appearance, they maintain the spirit of the mythos, delineated by these criteria:

# Rodent like creatures that inhabit the Enchanted Woods in the Dreamlands.
# Are intelligent and can understand most human languages. Their language is made up of whistling sounds that may be difficult to master for most people.
#Zoogs prefer tools as gifts, telescopes, clockwork toys work very well. If you have food, offer to share.
#Zoogs also make an alcoholic like drink called Zoog Juice. Not for the faint of heart, or the weak stomached.
#An angry Zoog can be troublesome, a whole village of angry Zoogs can and will rip a man asunder.

In our story, this little Zoog was taken from the forests as a wee kit and raised in the ghoul warrens. It has imprinted on Kore and her sister Kupray, and prefers sweet nuts to flesh. While Zoogs normally are difficult to raise, when properly imprinted they are highly affectionate and loyal.
